The Rev. Dr. Jonathan M. Barton

Jonathan Barton trained in psychology at Kean University in Union, NJ ('74), received a Master of Divinity degree from Drew Theological Seminary in Madison, NJ ('78), and a Doctor of Ministry at the Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology, Virginia Union University, Richmond, VA (‘14). Ordained by the Presbyterian Church USA to the position of Hunger Action Enabler for three presbyteries. He served as Associate Regional Director and Regional Director for seventeen years with Church World Service and eighteen years as General Minister for the Virginia Council of Churches. 

Jonathan has traveled extensively on behalf of the Church and its mission, seeing firsthand the power of the Spirit working across the globe. Rev Barton was part of the NCCCUSA delegation to the 12th General Assembly of the Christian Conference of Asia in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where he also traveled to areas devastated by the 2004 Tsunami.

Rev. Barton served in Washington, DC as the Assistant to the National Coordinator for the National Committee for World Food Day, a United Nations Food and Agriculture program. Represented the New Jersey Council of Churches, testifying before a Senate Subcommittee in support of the U.S. National Academy of Peace and has provided testimony before both houses of Congress on behalf of Federal Recognition for Virginia Native American Tribes. Rev. Barton has served on the Board of the Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy and currently serves on the Board of Directors for LifeNet Health.
